IWILL KK266 AUDIO DRIVER
After referring to the excellent manual I configured the few jumpers on the board ready to power her up after connecting all the peripherals. Of course, to just about everyone’s surprise, the KTA became quite the sleeper! Nothing, nothing at all. Fitting was a breeze what more can I say. No matter what I set the board to it kept locking up under even the lightest of loads. One strange jumper that you will come across is the one to set the FSB manually.

While the packaging does look quite spiffy, it actually does a good job at protecting the board from whatever might happen to it. Instead we were dealt a SDR solution.
Hit F10 for the save and format my drive ready for windows. The only glitch being the full row of capacitors below the CPU socket that made heatsink fitting a bit testing on their patience, a small point I know. What was the best tech product of ?

Fitting was a breeze what more can I say. This is by far the fastest and most solid board around at the moment and here is the proof of the speed. To succeed, they need to make a product competitive to that from other manufacturers in terms of performance and quality, while aurio an attractive price.
In order to surpass them, they need to Innovate and tweak even further. The Sandra scores however speak for themselves. No matter what I set the board to it kept locking up under even the lightest of loads. Well this is where it comes into play.
What’s different in the Iwill KK266Plus-R from the KK266-R ?
Bios tweaks and Overclocking. Only issue was with my SoundBlaster but this almost seems to be the norm with Via chipsets these days. One of the reasons DDRAM has had such a poor time gaining a strong foothold in the marketplace was because of this chipset. Following up the original KT chipset from Via was never going to be an easy task in the Socket A market as it has been from the outset about the only worthwhile chipset out there.

Now for the important question, How well did it perform? A few reboots later and we were all done, or so I thought. There are currently no bios updates available from Iwill but that will change soon I guess but the guys at www. After 4 different sticks of memory, 2 different Hard drives, 2 different video cards and a shed load of help from Jackie0 on the Hard forums and Xev we got it sorted. W here Iwill does differentiate audil, and where in our opinion it does so beautifully, is by gaining the respect of the hardware community for its’ almost legendary ability to hit high Front Side Bus Auduo speeds!
Hard drives spin up and power lights on but nothing. The board uses and Award bios so it was kinda familiar in there and I felt quite at ease configuring everything ready for Windows.
The first thing noted on the layout of the board was the well thought out placing of the ATX connecter at the extreme top edge of the board well out of the way. DDR being such a catch phrase, most people including yours truly forgot that in reality, it only allows twice kk266 bandwidth of conventional SDR memory but isn’t really ‘faster. I cannot believe the power and speed of my machine since fitting this motherboard, even to the aaudio it feels as flexible and responsive as a SMP machine.

So another format and install later with the onboard sound enabled it was looking good. After all, why invest more time and effort into such an aging chipset?
